Joseph Bernard McLaughlin
March 16, 1924 - January 28, 2014
Joseph Bernard McLaughlin, 89, died peacefully on January 28, 2014 in Savannah, Georgia, surrounded by his wife and children. Joe, the son of Leo and Genevieve Ward McLaughlin, was born in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania on March 16, 1924 and was raised in Detroit, Michigan.
Joe served in the US Marines Corps during World War II and received a citation for meritorious performance during the battle of Iwo Jima. Upon discharge, Joe returned to Detroit where he attended the University of Detroit and began his career with US Plywood Corporation. With his wife, he raised his family in Livonia, Michigan before moving to Fort Lauderdale, Florida in 1970.
Joe is survived by his devoted wife of 65 years, Dolores; his children: Karen Wilson David, Michael McLaughlin Sherry, Jill Welling Paul; his grandchildren: Kevin Wilson, Meghan Diamon, Michael McLaughlin Jr., Callie McLaughlin, Patrick McLaughlin, Jared Day and Julia Welling; and his great granddaughters: Solara McLaughlin and Peyton McLaughlin.
Joe is preceded in death by his parents and siblings: Leo Ward, Gerard, Robert and Cecilia.
A private family Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. James Catholic Church, Savannah, Georgia.
